Erdogan says Turkey unable to reject relations with Russian, gas

ANKARA, May 19 (PRIME) -- Turkey is unable to reject its relations with Russia and suspend imports of Russian natural gas, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday during a meeting with the country’s youth.

“We have connections to both sides (Russia and Ukraine). We have the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project with Russia. We are to finish the project and launch it next year. This is a very serious source for us. We receive 50% of the gas we consume from Russia,” he said.

“This is a strategic issue for us, it is about strategic relations. We are unable to reject them, we are unable to tear them down,” he said.
